Carolyn, there is a link at the bottom of galveston.com where you can email them about the web cams. Not sure why getting the cameras running is not a priority to them. Strand cam and Postoffice cam would show the recovery effort. Seawall areas faired best, so those cams don't show much damage.

I live about 80 miles up the coast from Galveston in SE Texas. We fared much better than Galveston, but still got hit pretty hard. To all the well wishers and those offering help, your kindness is greatly appreciated. To all the haters out there who take any oppurtunity to spread their poison, God will take care of you. Don't you think that in the end it's all about how you treat your fellow man.

Going out on a limb here "Safe In Tulsa" by reading your comment below, I'd say you are not real smart. What does consolidation have to do with anything? If it's any CONSOLATION, read and practice vocabulary, it may help you in the future. Safe in Tulsa at 09-11-08 said: You guys are gonna get tore up and I'm gonna sit here at home and watch it happen. But if it's any consolidation, good luck.

If all the roads out of there, are already closed or under water. How will you and your crew get out of there? After all it does look like all of Galveston will be under water in a few hours. Good luck and feel bad for those on that tanker that have to set it out and with so many thousands of others sitting it out. Looks as if a lot of death as well.
Colorado at 09-12-08 said:

I can't get this webcam to show up today, anyone else having that problem? This is our beloved hotel we stayed in this summer, I would walk across that road before sunrise to gather seashells, my husband and I would walk along the beach at night...I hope this area isn't destroyed!

I rode out Alicia at the Motel 6 in Galveston in 1983 and the roof of the motel blew off and we got soaked with rain, the hurricane hit abot 2 am and they turned off the power to Galveston Island so there would be down live power line. It was so dark in the motel you couldn't see your hand an inch from your nose. We could see anything until daylight which was about 7 am. There was nothing to eat or drink due to no power to cook and no water. It got very hot and humid the next day, the weather was great after the hurricane but there was nothing left to do on the island so were drove home in a Topical Storm all the way back to Dallas.

I lived in Galveston for a while, and I am sick to my stomach when I think of what may happen to the island. My apartment was on the Seawall at 81st, so watching video of the waves carshing above the wall is frightening! Wishing all the folks there the best as they get out to safety. I am thinking of you!

It's not the end of the world approaching. It's only a cat 2 with 105 mph winds. The people in real danger are the ones living below sea level and right on the beach. Blah blah blah... Leave or don't. Make your choice.

Park your car at a parking garage 3rd floor. Stairwells at the garage make a flood proof safe hideaway. During Alicia, the airport runways were under 2 feet of water. Expect more now. Water will wash over the seawall making a 3 foot deep river on the downslope side. Good luck
